Are they mushrooms, fried eggs or warts?
Not fair, I always go first. But, I may come back, Ellen
These particular fungi or mushrooms are located among the tree roots in the Muir National Forest which is located in the state of California near Mt. Tamalpais
Ellen - in this case being first allowed you to get the easy part.

Looks like a set of eyes of something I would not wish to run into.
I just hope it cooks up well
Enjoy the day
Don - edible they aren't
Well they sure look like eggs to me. Is the last blank - In the United States of America?
Jenny - No but the location is in the US. I imagine they look almost the same today as they did some 30 plus years ago when this photo was taken
"Fried Eggs" located DEEP in the CAVE FORMATION or KARST LANDSCAPES...in the state of KENTUCKY in the NATIONAL CAVES.
First, and back again. How am I doing?
Ellen
Not Kentucky, TEXAS says my daughter studying earth science.
Kathy, These are in Luray Caverns in Luray Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains not far off of Skyline Drive!! Or ones very similar to these!
Gloria
Gloria's response sparked my Google image searching. I typed "fried eggs" (in quotes) and the word cave into google images. The second picture showed the fried eggs at Luray Caverns at http://www.luraycaverns.com/DiscoverTheCaverns/FriedEggs/tabid/593/Default.aspx
I was at Luray Caverns about 5 years ago. It is a great way to end a vacation to DC.
Ellen - Sorry not the answer I was looking for but you certainly provided clues for others to follow up on
Doug and Gloria - while your answers are correct they are not all the precise answers I was looking for.
ANSWER # 3 and 4 THANKS TO DOUG AND GLORIA
